Angelo R. Mozilo, co-founder of Countrywide Credit Industries Inc. in 1969, is vice chairman and chief executive officer. He also serves as chairman and chief executive officer of Countrywide Home Loans, the company's main subsidiary. Mozilo is vice chairman and chief executive officer of Independent National Mortgage Corporation, a real estate investment trust.

A hands-on manager, Mozilo is active in all aspects of Countrywide's businesses. While he reviews all financial and operational activities, his central focus is overall business growth. Mozilo was the 1991-1992 president of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) which represents more than 2,800 member firms involved in every aspect of mortgage and real estate finance. In 1990, the MBA awarded him the title of certified mortgage banker, the industry's highest professional designation. Mozilo serves on the MBA's Board of Governors and on its Executive Committee.

Mozilo serves on the board of trustees of Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., as well as on the boards of Verdugo Hills Hospital, and the National Building Museum Society. He is also on the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association's board of directors.

Mozilo was inducted into the National Association of Home Builders' Hall of Fame in 1995 and currently serves on its National Housing Endowment Foundation, which is the philanthropic arm of the association. He is on the Fannie Mae National Advisory Council and also serves on the board of directors of the California Housing and Finance Agency. Mozilo recently received the Albert Schweitzer award for his work with the youth of America.

Mozilo received his bachelor's degree in marketing and philosophy from Fordham University in 1960. In 1960 and 1961, he studied real estate law on a graduate level at New York University.
